LONG, SILAS R. - The death of Silas R. Long of Bloomfield, husband of Freda (Smith) Long occurred October 19, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Bloomfield, son of the late Herbert and Rebecca (Mercer) Long. Silas was a farmer, soldier, heavy equipment operator and lumberman. He played accordion with several musical groups to entertain for seniors and veterans. He was known to win a few games of crib. Silas was well loved by friends and neighbors for the many acts of random kindness he performed. He was a hard worker and easygoing. He is survived by his wife Freda; two daughters, Evelyn Cassidy (David), Bloomfield, Marlene Marr (Tony), Midland; four sons, Douglas Long (Julia), Bloomfield Ridge, Bruce Long (Brenda), Bloomfield Ridge, Kenneth Long (Deborah), Bloomfield, Jeffrey Long (Tammy), Norton; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. "Didn't Work to Live, he Lived to Work." Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation 2 to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday. The funeral will be held Monday, 1:00 pm at Reid's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Leary officiating. Interment in Big Rock Cemetery.
