CREIGHTON, Vera May (nee Stephens) - It is with sadness that the family of Vera Creighton announce her passing on Friday, November 2, 2007 in her 98th year at the Peterborough Region Health Center (Hospital Drive Site). Beloved wife of the late John Peter (Jim) Creighton (1988). Loving mother of Joan and her husband Frank Lucas. Cherished grandmother of Timothy Lucas and his wife Deborah, Grant Lucas and his wife Robin, Richard Lucas and his wife Susan. Caring great- grandmother of Emily, Ben, Madeline, Jacob, and Olivia Lucas, Jocelyn (Josie) and her husband Nairn Florence and Geoffrey Figuroa. Dear aunt of Linton (Marion) Herron, Grant (Helen) Herron, and Reginald (Betty Anne) Hillman. Sister-in-law of Norma Creighton and Ena Parcher of Kingston. Predeceased by her parents Ernest Grant Stephens and Mary Beatrice Crowe and also by her sisters Alice Herron, Beatrice Stephens and Edna Hillman. For over 50 years a resident of the Stoney-Lake Nephton area, Vera, an Ottawa Civic Hospital Nurse, was often the first one called upon when a neighbour was ill. She obtained her elementary teaching certificate from the Peterborough Normal School in the early 1940's and taught school at S.S.#1B Burleigh, at the head of Stoney Lake, for nine years. She was also employed as secretary-bookkeeper at Indusmin for several years. Vera and her husband Jim moved to Peterborough in 1988. Vera was a founding member of the Nephton Women's Institute; a life member of the Carmel United Church Women; a member of George St. United Church and George St. U.C.W. She was a past matron of the Peterborough Chapter #161 - Order of the Eastern Star. Friends are invited to call at the KAYE FUNERAL HOME “Memorial Chapel“ 539 George St. N., on Tuesday from 7 - 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1 - 2 p.m. at George St. United Church. Funeral Service will be held at George St. United Church on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Karen Ptolemy-Stam officiating. Interment Little Lake Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Bible Society, World Vision, or the George St. United Building Fund would be appreciated by the family. (Order of the Eastern Star will hold a service Tuesday Evening at 6:45 p.m. in the Funeral Home). 10889293
