LANGSTAFF, Thomas E. - Tom passed away peacefully in the company of family and friends on October 21, 2007 in Regina. Born in Gatchell, ON in 1947, Tom attended school in Gatchell and Sudbury and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University, Ottawa. The son of Lorne and Betty Langstaff, he was predeceased by his parents and four brothers. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Joan (nee Naylor); daughter, Brenna and grandson, Justin; son, Ian; sisters, Jan (Ray Dumas) and Shirley. Tom began his career in the field of Human Resource Management with the Public Service Commission (Canada) and Revenue Canada. In 1974, Tom and Joan moved to Regina where he developed his skills working for such organizations as the Public Service Commission, Regina Public Library and the Workers Compensation Board. For a time he worked with Clarke Roofing (Sask.) Ltd., gaining knowledge in the construction field. He was involved in the Regina Personnel Association, which expanded into the Human Resource Management Association of Regina. As an activist, he was involved in the planning and formation of the Canadian Council of Human Resource Associations, which now represents over 25,000 human resource professionals across Canada. Tom always encouraged young professionals to become active in the Associations and became a mentor to many newer HR candidates. He lived a full and active life with a positive attitude and great sense of humour. He most enjoyed being with his family and friends, especially at Katepwa Lake. Trips up North to fish and South to Mexico where his interest in archeology expanded, were the best remembered experiences of his life. Tom's courage, humour and dignity displayed during his long struggle with cancer are admired by all who shared in his difficult burden. The family appreciates the support offered by so many friends during this time. Very special thanks to Dr. Mike Montbriand, physician and friend for many years. Thanks to Dr. L. Clein who provided relief in the last days and as well the outstanding staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at St. Anne's Church, 1701 Cowan Cr., Regina, SK with Fr. Thomas Nguyen as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Regina Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK, S4T 1A5.
