BATE, James Gilmour - WWII Veteran, Engineers, Boy Soldier, retired Ontario Hydro employee (survey and mapping), member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 99, after a lengthy battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on Saturday, October 27, 2007 in his 82nd year. Son of the late Albert and Johan Bate (nee Begg) of Ottawa. Beloved husband of Liza Bate (nee Huntley). Dear father of Jennifer MacPherson (Lyle), Sarah and Emma. Loved grandpa of Emily, Meghan and Noah. Dear brother of Barbara Hutchins (late Jim) and Helen Woolford (Al) of Ottawa. As well, Mr. Bate is survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior to service at Bridge Street United Church from 3:30-4:30 p.m. A celebration of Jim's life with a legion service will be held at Bridge Street United Church, 60 Bridge St. E. at 4:30 pm.
