BAIGER, Joseph “Joe“ ( December 28th, 1921 - November 6th, 2007 ) - former resident of Welland, Fonthill and Normandale, having lived a full and rewarding life, upon incurring a stroke, Joe passed away gently comforted by his wife Jean Shewchuk-Baiger (nee McIelwain) of Normandale. Loving father of Kathy Baiger (Gordon Kuhn) of Waterloo and the late Sheila (1995). Predeceased by his parents Harry & Francis Baiger, and sisters Anne Baiger, Welland (1995) and Helen Burg, Ohio (2007). Uncle “Joe“ to Sandy & Pat (Ohio) and their families. Loved by his grandchildren and extended families Gary Shewchuk (Sharon), Grace Smoltz and Geri Byars (Bruce). Sadly missed by his adored rescue dog “Harry“, his devoted companion. Joe graduated from Welland High and Vocational School in 1939. In 1996 he achieved his certificate in Industrial Management and Administration from McMaster University (4 yr. program). Joe was general superintendent of machine shop operations and general foreman at Welmet Industries, Welland and later became a health and safety officer for the Ministry of Labour. Joe belonged to the Phoenix Lodge A.F. & A.M. #535; was president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Niagara Chapter 65 in 1970; president of Lookout Point Golf Club, Fonthill in 1970; and a member of the Welland Curling Club. Joe loved and appreciated nature from sunrise to sunset. “Your bird feeders will be always full, your dear Harry will have walks to the lake.“ At Joe's request, cremation has taken place. Come spring, family and friends will unite to celebrate Joe's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations payable to Muscular Dystrophy Canada would be gratefully acknowledged by the family and may be made through the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North, Simcoe, ON N3Y 3R3. The family wish to extend special thanks to Dr. J.D. Hall and all of the palliative care nurses of the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe for their care and compassion during our difficult days. Thank you all. Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199 10892989
