OBITUARY SIEBERT PHILIP SIMONS M.D. 1922-2007 Died peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the age of eighty-five years. Husband for 49 years to Irene (nee Pankoski). Father of Renee Simons (Arjan Nouwen M.D.) of Amsterdam and Ruth Simons, M.D. (Paul Gossen) of Louisville, Kentucky. He is also survived by his sister Euphemia Simons of Amsterdam and beloved grandchildren Frances and Alex Gossen of Louisville and Julia and Ting Nouwen of Amsterdam. Born April 12, 1922 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, he completed an education somewhat delayed by WWII, graduating from the University of Amsterdam with a degree in Medicine. He emigrated to Canada in 1955, practicing initially as a general practitioner in B.C. and then Saskatchewan. In 1960 he moved to Montreal to study psychiatry at McGill University. Thereafter he practised as a psychiatrist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Lakeshore Hospital before retiring in 1990. He had many interests including mathematics and the arts, and loved conversation and good company. He retained a strong love and pride for his native country as well as for his adopted province, Quebec. By his wishes, he will be cremated with a private memorial service to follow at a later date.
