Sander: Alfred 'Al' January 20, 1932 - December 18, 2005 Al Sander, beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by: his wife, Leona Sander; friend and golf companion, Mary Bell of Irricana; four daughters, Shirley Sander of Edmonton, Susan (Tom) Wharton of Calgary, Sandi Hill (Art Stearns) of Chestermere, Cheri Sander of Nanaimo, BC; six grandchildren, William Wharton, Nicholas Urkow, Vanessa Urkow, Sammi Hill, Natasha Urkow and Carlye Urkow. He is also survived by his brothers, Ferdinand Sander, Outlook, SK, Ernest Sander, Weyburn, SK, Walter (Mildred) Sander, Drumheller, AB and his sister Elsie (Wallace) Pearn, Calgary. Al was predeceased by his parents, August and Annie Sander, his siblings, Elizabeth (Sam) Koustrup, Hannah (Richard) Stephensen, Louise (Godfrey) Youck, Fritz (Victoria) Sander. Al was born on the family farm in Loreburn, SK and at age of 17 relocated to Alberta and went to work in the oilfields. He worked his way up to manager of Rucker Shaffer. In 1979 he started his own business, Allstack B.O.P Sales & Service, providing blowout prevention equipment and supplies to the oil & gas drilling industry. He also farmed 1 1/2 sections of land near Irricana, all at the same time. Al retired to full-time farming in 1993 and sold the farm in 1998 preferring to play golf and travel. He loved RVing, a good scotch and laughed a lot. Al lived, worked and played hard. He had a full life and had many friends. Special thanks to the staff of the Acute Care Ward at the Drumheller Hospital and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. A very special thanks to Mary Bell, assisting Leona in Palliative Care. A Celebration of Al's life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, December 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al's name directly to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation (351 - 9 St. NW, Drumheller, AB, T0J 0Y1).
