HODGSON: Helen Marguerite 1914 - 2006 Helen Marguerite Hodgson passed away peacefully in Drumheller Hospital on May 7, 2006 at the age of 92 years. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Nicholas (Nick) and is survived by her sons, Nick (Norma) and Garry (Gloria) and grandsons, Dwayne (Cathy) and Michael and great-granddaughters, Laura, Lindsay and Cayley. Helen was born on May 1, 1914 in Bristol, New Brunswick. She came from a big family and loved to listen to her mother and later Aunt Mattie and cousin Norma play the piano. She also enjoyed bingo and could be counted on to win the 'turkey bingo' for either Christmas or Easter. In 1934 Helen married Nicholas (Nick) Newby Hodgson and together they farmed in the Morrin district until Nick's death in 1973. Shortly after that, she moved briefly to Drumheller and then settled in Morrin, where she lived for 16 years. She then became a resident of the Sunshine Lodge in Drumheller, where she especially enjoyed her friends, her card games and bingo. Helen's family wishes to commend the Sunshine Lodge for its fine care and for providing Helen with such a wonderful quality of life, which certainly contributed to her longevity. Many thanks to the Sunshine Lodge staff. Helen's final days were spent in Drumheller Hospital. Her family also wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Acute and Palliative Care Units, Dr. E.M. Racz, the Home Care staff, and volunteers for their much appreciated kindness and compassion. At Helen's request, there will be no formal service following cremation, and her ashes will be placed beside her husband. A tea in Helen's honour will be held for family and friends at the Sunshine Lodge May 25, 2006 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly, in Helen's memory, to a charity of one's choice.
