Alberta SWAINSTON

UTTLEY:Mrs. Alberta 1915 - 2007 Mrs. Alberta Uttley passed away at the Pineridge Long Term Care Centre in Stettler on July 20, 2007, at the age of 92 years . She was born on May 21, 1915, the third child of Dolly and Henry Swainston of the Stonelaw District. She is survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Swainston (Carl) and 23 nieces and nephews and their families. She will also be remembered by many friends and neighbors. Alberta was predeceased by her husband Norman Uttley in 1970, by her Mother Dolly in 1927, her father Henry in 1974, her brother Purl Dallas in 1930, sister Merle Gamble in 1980, brother Fred in 1982, brother Carl in 1996, brother Glen in 1999 and sister Erma Trout in 2005. Following their marriage in 1933, Norman and Alberta farmed in the Gopher Head District. Alberta fully embraced her task as a homemaker and farm wife - cooking, cleaning, gardening and milking cows which she did for many years. Following the sale of their farm, they moved to Big Valley where they established a Locker Plant and Grocery store. They operated this for several years and again Alberta worked by Norman’s side. In later years, Alberta did janitorial work at several businesses in Big Valley where she was a willing worker and did her job with diligence and dedication. She was very proud of the wonderful party hosted in her honor by Gulf Canada when she retired. Although Alberta was small in stature, she was indeed a force to be reckoned with. People in Big Valley will remember her determination to make the village “Dandelion Free”. She could be seen at all hours picking dandelion flowers to prevent them from going to seed. She could also be seen washing her windows, mowing her lawn and shoveling her driveway all with great determination and purpose. She was a faithful Avon representative for many years. She will be remembered for her hospitable nature always wanting people to stop by for a meal or coffee and to enjoy a piece of her wonderful lemon pie. During her brief time in the Pineridge Long Term Care Centre, Alberta received loving and expert care. Her family appreciated all the kindness and patience shown to her by her Doctors, Nurses and staff. Her family would also like to acknowledge and extend a sincere Thank You to all of the wonderful friends, neighbors and acquaintances who took time from their busy lives to be there and support Auntie Alberta through the good times and the bad. Funeral services were held at the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David Denholm of the Stettler United Church officiating. Alberta was laid to rest in the Lake View Cemetery beside her beloved husband Norman. Following the interment, family and friends gathered at the Brennen Funeral Home reception area where they enjoyed a light lunch and shared many stories of time spent with Auntie Alberta.
