Norma James MAJOR

GRAHAM, NORMA JANET Norma J. (Major) Graham, age 86, of Upper Queensbury passed away peacefully on November 4, 2007 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Norma was the beloved wife of 64 years to Arnold Graham; dearly loved mother of Errol (Sonia), Diann, Janice (Andrew Wilson) and Gary (Anita); grandmother to Virgil, Melissa, David, Maggie, Ian, Kerstin, Leanne, Michelle, Jeremy and Aaron; great-grandmother to Zach, Adam, Kai, Anya, Jackson and Sydney. Norma is also survived by her sister, Donna Briggs (Lloyd). She was predeceased by her parents, George and Cora Major, her son Glenn and sisters Carol Major and Rowena MacKenzie. Norma's life was one of family, love, hard work and faith. She lived all of her 86 years in Upper Queensbury in the same home overlooking the beauty of the St. John River. She graduated from Saint John High School and Fredericton Normal School (Teachers' College) and was among the last of a generation of teachers who taught in the one-room schoolhouses that once dotted New Brunswick's rural landscape. Norma was employed for several years at Kings Landing Historical Settlement. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed observing nature and the daily sighting of the many deer that inhabited the fields around her home. Norma took pleasure in reading and had an inquiring mind that enjoyed conversation, politics and reflection. She cherished her family and friends, always providing a warm and welcoming home. She was a talented cook, turning out big meals for all that gathered at her table. It has been calculated that, in her lifetime, she made over a hundred thousand loaves of fragrant and tasty bread. Norma was a woman of deep and abiding faith. She took an active role at the Nackawic Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher and a life member of the Women's Missionary Society. Over the past several years she endured her slowly declining health with the same grace and strength that marked her life. The family wishes to thank Frieda Parker, who as housekeeper, provided wonderful care and support. Family flowers only, please. Visitation will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Nackawic Baptist Church, 94 McNair Drive, Nackawic on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating, assisted by Rev. Ralph Irving. Interment in Nackawic Cemetery. A reception will follow at Nackawic Baptist Church fellowship room. Honorary pallbearers will be Frieda Parker, Joan Macintosh and granddaughters, Melissa Graham, Maggie Graham, Kerstin Wilson, Leanne Schmidt and Michelle Fox.
