KANTYMIR, Bill (Big Daddy) - Of Port Colborne passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 22 at home surrounded by his family at the age of 72. Beloved husband for 43 years of Henny (nee Vanderschoor). Loving father of John (Carrie) and Mary-Ann. Cherished grandfather of Michelle, Nicole, Kerrin & Steve Kantymir and Rob Sawatzky. He is survived by his sister-in-law Madge Opasky and her children Terry, Susan, Rick and Cindy and his brother-in-law Nick Vanderschoor (Beverly) and their children Scott (Mary) and Tanyelle (Bert). He was pre-deceased by his parents Dora and Nick Kantymir, his stepmother Molly, his half- brother Fred Opasky (March 2007) and his father and mother-in-law John and Geertje Vanderschoor. Bill was born in Sudbury and moved to Timmins as an infant. At the age of four, following the death of his mother, he moved to Toronto where he later attended University of Toronto graduating as a Metallurgical Engineer. Port Colborne became his home in 1959 when he began his career with Inco. He retired as Superintendent of Operations in 1992. “Big Daddy” was an avid golfer and curler but his main interest was his photography collection. He was Past President and active member of the Photographic Historical Society of Canada. Bill believed very strongly in the community of Port Colborne and spent many years serving with the Port Colborne Lions Club. He was a Past President, Lifetime Member and founder of the Annual Lions' Food Drive. Friends and family will be received at the PORT COLBORNE CHAPEL of the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOMES 135 Clarence St. on Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. There will be a Lions Memorial Service held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday November 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Steven Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A celebration of Life will be held following the interment at the Port Colborne Lions Club Community Centre on Chippawa Road in Port Colborne. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Port Colborne Lions Club would be greatly appreciated by the family.
