ENGERT, Kathe - On Saturday, November 17, 2007, Kathe Engert passed away at the Woolcott Wing of the Welland County General Hospital. Kathe was born on September 28, 1922, in Sonta, in the current state of Serbia, formerly Yugoslavia. On January 11, 1949 she and Michael Engert were married and soon afterward emigrated to Canada in search of a better life. Kathe and Michael found their way to Welland and prospered in their new country. They had three children, Frank, John, and Walter. Kathe devoted herself to her family and her activities at Club Rheingold. She and her family were also members of St. Kevin's parish. Kathe was very proud her children, who established themselves in their own marriages and careers. She was also a very devoted Oma to her grandchildren. In 1994, after 45 years of marriage, Kathe's beloved husband Mike passed away after a brief illness. During her final years she became reacquainted with an old family friend, Peter Wolf, sharing a brief friendship until his death earlier this year. Kathe was predeceased by her brother Frank during World War II, her parents in the early 1980s and her son John in 2005. She is survived by her son Frank and wife Diane of Oakland, Maine, and their sons Michael of Boston, Massachusetts and Bryan of Portland, Maine; her son Walter and wife Susan and their sons Timothy and Robert of Ottawa, Ontario; John's wife Elisabeth and their children Nicole, Stephen and Kate and great grand-child Alexandra of Essex, Ontario. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family, the Galuaners, the Bruens, and the family of Uncle John Engert as well as the friends she leaves. The family will receive relatives and friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Thursday morning 1 hour prior to the memorial service, which will be conducted in the chapel by Rev. James Mulligan, CSC at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arthritis Foundation or the United Way of Welland would be appreciated by the family. on line memories and condolences at www.jjpatterson.ca As a memorial tribute, a tree will be planted in Memory Woods.
