CROWE, Retus Marie - It is with deep regret that Retus Marie Crowe passed away on Dec. 7th, 2007. Retus was born on Dec 28th 1919. Retus died peacefully and without pain to the disease Alzheimer's, that she had been with for some time. An ancient proverb tells that few people use to go see the ships leaving for a voyage, it was only once the ship returned that there was a cause for celebration of adventures, riches and a life lived. With Retus, although saddened by her passing; it was a life of love, kindness and compassion. This is a ship that truly came in and touched so many along the voyage that gave each of those she encountered riches. The only reason that angels can fly is that they take themselves lightly. Retus was able to take herself lightly while often carrying the burdens of others, allowing them to fly. Retus loved deeply and was loved deeply by her husband Bud (Vernon Crowe), her Brother Kenny Wheeler; Her sons David and Michael, her daughter Darlene and her grandchildren, Bryant, Beth, Josh and Arielle, will miss her. We were all blessed to have known Retus. Friends will be received at the DENNIS TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service in the chapel. Although Retus had Alzheimer's; she would have preferred to have forgotten about that and have any donations given to the S.P.C.A. for the castration of stray animals and having them find homes. Mom always had a great sense of humour. My favourite story she told, was when she was young, her cousins decided to play a joke on her. Her cousins found a fresh cow pie, put a hat over top of it and convinced her that they had a bird under the hat. They told her that she had to grab it quickly when they lifted the hat so the bird would not get away.
