KOPOT, Walter - passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 86 years. Walter was born in the town of Futory, district of Loacziw, Poland on the 28th day of February, 1921. His life was disrupted by the events of World War II when he was forcefully deported to Germany where he remained in various Displaced Persons camps until 1947. He arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the 13th of September, 1947 on the ship, General M.B. Stewart. His acceptance by Canada was conditional on his working in the forestry industry for a period of time, which he gladly fulfilled in the Kenora, Ontario area. He then moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario where he worked for the Algma Steel Corporation until his retirement, when he moved to Dauphin in 1990. Walter was a very private person. He was kind and caring to those who knew him. Walter was predeceased by his cousins, Nick, Mike, Ann, John, Steve, twins Joe and Helen and Fred Przylo. He is survived by a niece in Germany and other extended family members mostly in the Dauphin area. Funeral service was held on Friday, November 23, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. from the Dauphin Riverside Evergreen Chapel. Father Oleg Bodnarski officiated and Marvin Procyshyn served as Cantor. The eulogy was delivered by Ron Chorneyko. Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Dauphin Personal Care Home.
