Sister Shirley McGovern, (Sister St. Rita) Sister Shirley McGovern entered into her eternal rest at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, Ontario on December 10th, 2007 in the 52nd year of her religious life. She was the daughter of Francis McGovern and his wife Alfreda McCaffrey of Ottawa, Ontario. Along with the members of her religious community, she leaves to mourn her sisters Marcella Cooper (Bert) of Ottawa, Sister Evelyn McGovern of Nepean, and Helen Damiano (Len) of Ottawa, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers Irwin, Leo, Gerald, and Keith and her sister Frances Lauzon. Sister Shirley received her early education in Ottawa. Subsequently she nursed in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Parry Sound, Ontario and at Marycrest in Peterborough. During her many years in the congregation, she also served in community services in Cobourg, St. Andrews West, Lindsay, Honey Harbour and Campbellford in Ontario. Visitation will be held at Mount St. Joseph, Monaghan Road, Peterborough, Ontario on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough on Thursday, December 13th, 2007 at 11:00 am. It will be celebrated by long-time family friend, Father A. Ockwood of Ottawa. This will be followed by Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery. Peterborough. Arrangements are with the Comstock Funeral Home, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough.
