Doris CANNON

OBITUARY DORIS CANNON HUGHES 1925 - 2007 A teacher, a mother, a tender heart. Passed away December 12, 2007 after a sudden illness. She was the wife of the late George Hilliard Hughes and mother of Margaret, Anne, George Jr. (Lori) and Charles (Isabelle), fun-loving grandmother of Stephanie, Christine, Felicia, Tristan and Zachary. Originally from North Carolina, Doris leaves behind sisters Mary-Louise (Walter) and Sarah (James), sisters-in-law Doris and Lucille, as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Doris had Southern hospitality and Northern openness. A great believer of equality and fairness to all, she was a humanitarian. Doris was known for her kindness and generosity. A woman of varied interests, she was an avid reader and budding architect. A firm believer in resolving disputes without war, Doris coined the phrase "No more Bush's, only trees, trees, trees!" In a final expression of her giving nature, Doris left her body to science to further the education of others through the Body Donor Program of McGill University. In June there is an annual commemorative service held at McGill Chapel for the families and friends of the donors and for the students who benefited from the gift.
