HIN, Woon Goey (Hin) - In Loving Memory, 1914-2007 - It is with deep regret that the family of Woon Goey Hin announces his passing in Iroquois Falls, on Thursday, December 6th, 2007 at the age of 93. He is survived by three children, Jack Woon, Velma (de Laplante), Tommy, and seven grandchildren, Janie (Ling), Susie (Grey), Brenda Woon, Lisa Woon (Swartz), Christine Woon, Barbara Woon and Cindy (Lateigne) as well as three great grandchildren Tria and Tyra Grey and Caitlyn Ling. Mr. Hin is predeceased by his wife Wong Tai (Hin) as well as his son Kenny. Mr. Hin came over from China with his father when he was 8 years of age. He did his schooling in Timmins and graduated with schoolmate Leo Delvilano. He started his career in the restaurant business at the Highway Beach restaurant and eventually purchased the Silver Grill (Paris Café) in the early 1930's. Hin had a love for food which was acknowledged by the local residents for over 60 years. A lot of local residents worked periodically in the restaurant throughout these years and became part of the family. During this time, because of his care and love of the community, he operated in partnership a theatre on Main street of Ansonville and later converted it to Northern Ontario's first fully automated bowling lanes. His love of sports involved sponsoring various local sporting teams and his insatiable love for fishing. We will all miss his famous cream pies and Chinese Pickerel dish. Hin always enjoyed a good game of cards and has missed a lot of his buddies who have passed on. With his kind and gentle demeanor, Hin was never one to speak badly of anyone and if he could help, he was always there. The family and friends will miss him terribly and he will always be in our thoughts. Many thanks go out to the staff and doctors at the South Centennial Manor for taking such good care of him. They nurtured him and treated him as part of their family and they will always be remembered. We would also like to thank The Palliative Care program for providing support to dad in our hour of need. The family will receive friends at the IRVINE & IRVINE FUNERAL HOME, 641 DeTroyes Ave, Iroquois Falls, on Friday, December 7th, 2007 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm as well as on Saturday, December 8th, 2007 from 1;00 pm to 3:00 pm. A reception will follow at the Silver Grill, 189 Am bridge Drive, Iroquois Falls, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Donations may be made to the South Centennial Manor and would be appreciated by the family.
