BYERS, Donald Edwin - In his 82nd year. (WWII Veteran, Member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 52, Long term employee of Peterborough Paper Convertors, formerly Nashua) Passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Monday, December 17, 2007 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Don was the devoted husband of Shirley Jeffries for 59 years. He is survived by his two sons, Lawrence and Steven (Chris), four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as one brother, Gary and a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin Byers and Wilma Davis, his brothers Elvin and Jack (Helen) and by his beloved only sister, Marlene and her husband Lloyd Moncrief. Don will also be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Joyce Winans, her husband Bob and their daughters. Don was a hardworking and active man and pursued many interests throughout his life. In his younger years, he was a proud Pipe Band member and participated regularly in parades throughout the province. He spent countless hours in arenas near and far following the sports activities of his sons and more recently those of his youngest grandchild, Corey. Don was always an avid outdoorsman, a thoughtful neighbour and a true lover of animals, especially dogs. For years, he routinely started each day with long walks around his neighbourhood and Jackson Park visiting with his neighbours and his canine friends. A very determined and persistent individual, Don delivered his last dog biscuit minutes before the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital for the last time. We mourn the loss of a quiet but very strong man. Rest in peace, Dad! Friends and relatives are invited to call at the KAYE FUNERAL HOME “Memorial Chapel“ 539 George Street, N., Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Private Family service will be held on Saturday, December 22nd. Reverend Lyle Horn officiating. Interment Highland Park Cemetery. Donations to the Humane Society or the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. 10939507
