Nancy Maud FRANEY

Nancy Maud Lynam (née Franey) March 14, 1913 - December 15, 2007 Peacefully, with her family at her side, at McMaster University Medical Centre on Saturday, December 15, 2007 in her 95th year. Born in Leicester, England from where she emigrated to Philadelphia in 1919. Her family settled in Hamilton in 1923. Predeceased by her husband Christopher Lynam (1984) and her brother Leslie Franey (1971). Devoted mother to Stephen, Robert Jay, and Susan (James Ruddle). Proud Grandmother of Lisa, Christopher (Karen), Tom (Kim) and Brock Lynam, and Sarah (Kyle Farnand) and Alexandra Ruddle (Scott Poechman). Great-Grandmother to Jack Lynam. She had a fond regard for her former daughter-in-law, Nancy Vallance Lynam. Nancy is also survived by her favourite sister-in-law, Audrey Lynam and many Franey and Lynam nieces and nephews. Always engaged in sports, Nancy and Chris were past members of The Mount Hope Golf and Country Club, Glendale Golf and Country Club and The Hamilton Thistle Club, where she won several trophies for lawn bowling and curling. Nancy began secretarial work at The Greening Wire Company in 1928 and then became a homemaker in 1938, when she married. During WWII, she received her mechanical qualifications to service military vehicles. Nancy volunteered with The Canadian Cancer Society, The United Appeal and Elections Canada for many years. She enjoyed wintering at her home in Palm Harbor, Florida where she had many Floridian friends. She will be remembered for her joy in family and friends, her neighbourly caring, her love of nature, her cheeky sense of humour and her indomitable inner strenght in times of personal tragedy. The family wish to express their appreciation to the staff teams at McMaster Hospital, especially Wards 3X and 4Y for their kindness and exceptional care, to CCAC, especially Kathy, to Dr. Phyllis McCord, and to Michael Hendershot of CIBC Wood Gundy.
