COTE, Phil - It is with great sadness the family of PHIL COTE announces his passing on Sunday, January 6, 2008, peacefully in his 90th year at Marshall Gowland Manor. Phil was the beloved husband of the late Agnes Cote (Boyle), loving father of Mary LaBelle (Randy Steinman), Patricia Cote (Adam Savage) and Colleen Millier (Warren Millier), grandfather to Philip LaBelle (Leanne), Beth LaBelle, Tim LaBelle, Amy Millier and Greg Millier (Shannon) and great grandfather to Kaileigh and Emma LaBelle. He is survived by brothers Homer (Rita) and Clare Cote and a sister Susan (Ken) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his long-time friend Winifred Wood, parents Lucien and Amelia Cote, brothers Constance (Mary), Maurice (June) and Peter (Florence - surviving), sisters Margaret (Paul), Marcella and Lorraine and sister-in-law Gladys Cote. Phil was an avid golfer throughout his life and participated in many tournaments throughout Southwestern Ontario. He was a member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club for over 60 years where he was four time Club Champion and winner of the 1961 July 1st tournament. He also won tournaments at Crabbies, Chatham and Wallaceburg and Greenwood clubs. He played in 2 Canadian Opens as an amateur in 1945 and 1949 and scoring a hole in one at Scarborough in 1949. He had a hole in one five times during his golfing years. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and acquaintances there. Phil was elected to the Sports Hall of Fame for Lambton County in 1991. He also played football for the Junior Imperials when they beat Malvern Grades at Toronto in 1938 for the Junior Championship and received the Sports Hall of Fame Trophy for outstanding performance as quarterback during the game. Phil was a lifetime member of the Point Edward Service Club and part of the 2nd 26th Battery during the war years. Phil retired from Imperial Oil after 42 years of service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF MERCY ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH on Thursday, January 10th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday between the hours of 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Prayers will be offered Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation or Alzheimer's Society (Cheques only please).
