John Reuben DAFOE

DAFOE, John Reuben (Jack) - Born 1922-12-17 - A WWII veteran, Jack he returned to the Napanee area in 1945 and married Jean Cameron on 3 June 1951. He farmed until 1956 when he went to work at Strathcona Paper Mill where he worked for 31 years, 55 year member of the Napanee Legion, one of the founding members of the Napanee Pipe Band and Member of the Masonic Lodge #9 Napanee died peacefully in his sleep at L & A County General Hospital on 20 December 2007 after a short illness. He will be deeply missed by his children Cheryl Free (Douglas), Heather Booth (Eldon) and Cameron (Pat); and will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Lisa and Douglas Free, Ben Booth and Natalie (Adam) Hansey, Justin and Joshua Dafoe and his great-grandchildren Connor, Quinton, Autumn and Nichole. John learned how to play the bagpipes beginning in 1966 and with close friends and co-workers his formed the original Napanee Pipe Band in 1967. With the pipe band he traveled to many events and parades both locally and in the United States. He was proud to first have his son join the band and then to have his grandson Ben join the band and be able to play with him until he retired from playing at the age of 75. He was a loyal member the Masonic Lodge in Napanee, worked as a volunteer driver and delivered pamphlets for SOS. He was a proud but private individual who put his family first and he proved that during his wife's illness in 1995 and became her sole caregiver for 12 years. He always looked on the bright side of things. He will be missed by all but his memory will live on with us all. 10957584
