THORNTON, F. WALTER (WALLY) Warrant Officer (Ret'd) CD Proud Veteran of WW2 British Armed Forces 1941-1947 Scottish Border Regt. Commando Unit 6 POW - Stalag 4B Canadian Armed Forces Provost Corps 1954-1974 With profound sadness the family of Wally Thornton report his passing on December 27, 2007, following a long, valiantly fought final battle, a soldier to the end. Born on February 4, 1925 in Morecambe, Lancs. England, he was in his 83rd year. Deeply loved and mourned by his wife Colleen. Predeceased in 1987 by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Oliver. Also left to mourn his passing are his son John Thornton, daughter-in-law Louise, granddaughters Kelly Sparks (James), and Jennifer Thornton, of Kingston. His sisters Joan and Patricia, and several nieces and nephews are mourning in England. Two step- daughters, Kari Stackhouse and Trudy Cosme also survive. In his final weeks at home Wally appreciated the kindness, concern and visits of his neighbors. A special thank you to Sam, his canine friend, who made him smile and lifted his spirits on her frequent visits. Arrangements to follow.
