MULLANY, Sister Mary Bernard (Patricia) CSJ - Peacefully, after a short illness at St. Joseph's Convent, Hamilton on Sunday, January 6, 2008, in her 72nd year as a Sister of St. Joseph. Daughter of the late William Joseph Mullany and Mary Almeda Kelly. Predeceased by her sisters, Josephine Quinlan, Mary Murray and Agnes Murray, and her brothers Joseph, William and John. Survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and the members of her religious family, the sisters of St. Joseph. The Sisters of St. Joseph will welcome family and friends at St. Joseph's Convent, Hamilton from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9. A Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Convent, Hamilton. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Sister “Mary B“ earned her elementary permanent teacher's certificate in 1941 and for the next thirty one years, she taught all of the grades one through eight at one time or another in the separate schools of Hamilton, Brantford, Hespeler, Aldershot, Kenilworth and Brantford. She was much loved by these little ones for her abiding graciousness and prayerful support for each of the students that she had the privilege to teach. Many of the relationships forged in these early formative years endured through the decades until the time of her death. Sister retired from teaching in 1972 and immediately took on the ministry of Sacristan at St. Basil's Church in Brantford (1970-72) and then at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brantford (1973-86). During her years at St. Joe's in Brantford, “Mary B“ delighted in her duties as Sacristan and extended this role to include the pastoral care of those who sought comfort in the Chapel while loved ones were receiving care. Failing health prompted a move to St. Joseph's Villa in 1987 where she took up the duty of Sacristan and the additional ministry of assisting with the Library. In 2005, “Mary B“ retired to the Martha Wing of St. Joseph's Convent where the focus of her ministry became one of prayer for her family whom she dearly loved, her many students, and all of the many intentions that came her way. Always effervescent, Sister “Mary B“ retained an interest in all of life and never failed to offer a smile of welcome and a kindly comment to each and every person that she encountered on her daily rounds. Sister Mary Bernard will be greatly missed but we rest secure in the promise that “those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.“ (Dan. 12:3). 10951759
