CARTER, Elijah (Nick) - Nick was born in Lamaroo, South Australia, February 22, 1927. He died at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday December 13, 2007. He grew up on a farm in Peake, South Australia. He was a naval short hand writer in the Second World War and was present at the signing at the Japanese surrender at Rabelle. He earned a degree in law and practiced law in Alice Springs, Central Australia. He married Susan Smith from St. Thomas, Ontario. He joined the Australian Army and became a legal officer in Vietnam during the War. Subsequently he immigrated to Canada with his wife and practiced law in Wingham and Listowel, Ontario. He and his wife moved to Niagara- on-the-Lake in 1991. He practiced law in Niagara Falls for several years. His wife passed away in 1996. He remarried Phebe Appleton on October 25, 2002. He is survived by his wife and two brothers James Carter and Cyril John (Jack) Carter both of South Australia and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Elijah's life will be held at St. Mark's Anglican Church on Thursday December 27, 2007 at 2 o'clock.
