BARRIER, Dorothy Edith August 21, 1918 - December 15, 2007 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Aunt who passed away suddenly at Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, after a brief illness. Dorothy was born in St. Anne, Manitoba to Howard and Grace May. She graduated from United College in Winnipeg and from University of Toronto with a degree in Social Work. Dorothy moved to Montreal where she established a successful career as a social worker and met the love of her life Edmund. After the death of her husband, Dorothy moved to Ottawa where she was actively involved in several associations and charitable organizations. She was a member of the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Club, the University Womens Club and gave her time generously by volunteering at the Ottawa General Hospital. Dorothy was an avid bridge player and loved to travel with her friends. Dorothy is predeceased by her loving husband Edmund Barrier and her "big sister" Ellenor Reid. She is survived by her Grand-nephews, Don Hurst of Calgary, David Hurst of Rossport, ON, her Grand-niece Julie Hoffman of Calgary, several cousins including Pat Reid of Winnipeg and several dear friends. Dorothy will be deeply missed for her zest for life, compassion towards others and love of family and friends. Dorothy's Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 10th at 1:30 p.m. at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa) with a reception to follow. Memorial Donations may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 12/20/2007 Published in the Montreal Gazette on 12/20/2007
