SEGAL, Sam. It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing away of our beloved father and grandfather Sam Segal on December 5, 2007 at the age of eighty-nine. Sam was born in Montreal, where he lived with his family until he and his late wife Melva retired to Richmond, B.C. in 1990. Sam devoted his life to community service, in particular, The Royal Canadian Legion. The recipient of many awards during his lifetime, by far the most prestigious was the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. He was also very involved in synagogue life, both in Montreal at Temple Emanuel-Beth Sholom and in Vancouver at Temple Sholom. He endeared himself to everyone he met. He was a role model of kindness and had an inner goodness that radiated within him. He leaves behind to remember him with deep love and respect his daughters Joan Fader (Stephen) and Dalia Orlev (Eddy) and his son David Segal (Sandra) as well as his special friend Esther Yacht. He will also be missed by his eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral was held at the Temple Sholom cemetery in White Rock, B.C. on December 7, 2007. Published in the Montreal Gazette on 12/22/2007
