James "Jim" Addison Smith January 07, 1922 - December 27, 2007 It is with sadness, yet with gratefulness for the long life, well-lived that Jim's family announces his passing on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at St. Joseph's Villa, Dundas. In his 86th year, Jim is the beloved husband of Evelyn (Whetham) Smith, the devoted father of Catherine and her husband Larry Bauslaugh and Douglas and his wife Pam. He is the precious Papa of Philip (Rina) Bauslaugh and David Bauslaugh, Valerie (Jason) Lewis and Allison and Jessica Smith. He is survived by his dear brother Norman Smith and his wife Janette of Massachusetts and fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Elsie Young and Erna Whetham. His brothers-in-law John Young and Jim Whetham are predeceased. Jim was a life-long member of Strabane United Church and a honorary elder. He was the long acting chairman of the Strabane Cemetery Board. He had a deeply rooted interest in municipal politics, holding positions of councillor, deputy reeve and reeve of West Flanborough, along with being a member of Wentworth County Council, clerk and treasurer. After Flamborough amalgamation, he became Clerk Administrator for the Township of Flamborough. He later became Mayor for the Town of Flamborough and Regional Councillor for the Region of Hamilton-Wentworth. Jim also enjoyed his charter membership in Strabane Optimists, the Flamborough Chamber of Commerce and was a member of Waterdown Lodge A.F.&A.M. No. 357 G.R.C. for many years. Jim and Evelyn have been lovingly married for 59 1/2 years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation with the Family will be held Saturday, December 29, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. at the KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St., N., Waterdown. A Service of Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at STRABANE UNITED CHURCH, 1565 Brock Rd., Strabane on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home Saturday evening at 9 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Strabane United Church or the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated. Please sign the Book of Condolence at www.kitchingsteepeandludwig.com
