Josephine "Chichi" Laba (née Bojos) May 28, 1925 - April 12, 2004 LABA (Bojos), Josephine "Chichi" - It is with extreme shock and deep sorrow we announce the unexpected death of our beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, Josephine "Chichi" Laba, Winona Crescent, Halifax, devoted wife for 56 years of John P. "Jaleel" Laba. Born in Dominican Republic, Chichi, as she was fondly known, came to Canada in 1946, and was married shortly after. Halifax became her home, and John's family became her family. Chichi was kind and loving, compassionate and helping. She had a close relationship with her family and her friends in Halifax, New York and the Dominican Republic. She especially reached out to the younger generation with whom she connected deeply and had a wonderful rapport. Chichi also had a very private and powerful faith in God. That faith was rewarded, for Jesus chose her to travel with him to his Father's kingdom. Her sudden illness, surgery and peaceful passing happened on Good Friday through Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, the most Holy days of the Roman Catholic Church. Jesus looked down and took her by the hand and said come with me into the Kingdom of God. Chichi was predeceased by her parents, Najiba (Sahad) and Juan Bojos (Dominican Republic); sisters, Juanita Hallal, Nina Bojos; brothers, Antonio and Andrés Bojos. She is survived by her husband, John; loving children, Angela, New York; Edward (July), Dominican Republic; brothers, Jose (Mary) Bojos, Johnny Bojos; sister, Margaret Hallal, all of Dominican Republic; Teresa Al-Molky, Halifax; many nieces and nephews, Halifax, Lebanon and the Dominican Republic; special friends who will never forget her presence in their lives. She leaves a void that will be impossible to fill, but she leaves many wonderful memories that will surely bring eventual peace and acceptance to all. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Bedford Highway, Father Bernie O'Neill officiating. Interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Reception to follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Hall. Donations in Chichi's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. "May she rest in peace."
