CUNNINGHAM, Myrtle Davida (nee Moore) - Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe. Formerly of Norview Lodge, Simcoe, and St. Williams, in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late J. Robert Cunningham (1997). Loving mother of, and will be sadly missed by, Roger Cunningham of St. Williams. She is survived by her sister Thelma Daws of Windsor. Predeceased by her parents Chester A. Moore (1916) and Bessie (Phillips) Moore Pretty (1980) as well as brothers Harry K. Moore (2007) & wife Marion and John L. Moore (1993) & wife Hazel. Also predeceased by brother-in-law Albert Daws. Survived by 10 nieces and nephews. Myrtle, the oldest of four children, was born on August 27, 1908 on the 3rd Concession of South Walsingham on the farm of her grandparents, John W. and Alvina Moore. This farm was not productive so they moved to Sheffield where the adults worked on a dairy farm. A few years later her family returned and purchased a farm on the 5th Concession of South Walsingham at Spring Arbour in the Hazen Settlement. When her father died in 1916 they had to forfeit the farm and the family was split up. She lived for a year with her great grandmother in Forestville before being reunited with her family on Wolven Street in Port Rowan. She left school at 16 to work at housekeeping and child care to help support her family. In 1927 she began to work at the A. A. Howe General Store in Port Rowan and remained there until 1945 when she married Bob. They lived in Brantford until 1969 when they retired to St. Williams. Myrtle was a gentle, honest and generous person who touched the lives of everyone she met. She gave joy and happiness to all who knew her through her sweet smile and infectious laugh. She was a gracious, loyal and devoted wife and a loving, proud mother. Her tireless busy hands made a comfortable loving home for Bob and Roger. She dealt with her illnesses over the past few years with tremendous strength, dignity and courage and never, ever, complained. Myrtle walked in beauty and peace, guided by her faith in God. Myrtle was a member of the St. Williams United Church, a life member of the United Church Women, a member of the St. Williams Women's Institute, the Port Rowan/South Walsingham Heritage Association, New Horizons and North Shore Seniors. Myrtle was a much appreciated source of information on the local history of Port Rowan and Norfolk County, and was a regular contributor to historical articles in the Port Rowan Good News. She has been collecting and scrapbooking articles of interest since the 1950s and has gathered an enviable amount of historical data on the many events that happened around the villages of Norfolk County. Her passion for gardening and love of flowers made the world a more beautiful place. She also loved music and performed with the Haldimand Norfolk Old Tyme Players. With her family she enjoyed many happy summers at the cottage at Long Point. Myrtle loved visiting with family and friends and will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. We have lost a very special person. Relatives and friends may call at the JEFFREY W. GLENDINNING FUNERAL HOME, 36 Front Street Port Rowan, on Friday, January 18, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be conducted in the Clark chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, January 19 at 12 Noon followed by a luncheon at the St. Williams Community Centre and then interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Waterford. At Myrtle's request, in lieu of flowers, donations to the St. William's United Church, St. Williams, Ontario N0E 1P0 (cheques accepted), or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated. 10963147
