Roy "Torchy" Baird January 20, 1927 - April 15, 2004 Roy Baird, husband of Esther, of Foundry Street, Moncton, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Thursday, April 15th, 2004. Born in Fredericton, on January 20th, 1927, he was the son of the late Samuel and Celia Baird. Roy attended U.N.B. and left upon his fathers death to work for the family business, S.S Baird & Sons of Fredericton. Music played an important part in Roy’s life, in Fredericton, he was the End Man for The Smokey Mokes and a member of the 4+1 singing group. Roy retired in 1979 and moved to Moncton where he was a member of the St. Paul’s United and St. John’s United Church Choirs. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Esther Oak Baird, brothers Lloyd, and Mack, step children Judith Carpenter and Peter Read. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Cedric and a sister Marian. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral service, to be held on Tuesday, April 20th, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home 1177 Salisbury Rd. Moncton. A reception for Roy’s family and friends will follow in the Garden View Reception Room of the funeral home. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
