Capt. Frank Merrill Mitchell April 21, 1927 - April 15, 2004 MITCHELL, Capt. Frank Merrill (HCCC) - 82, Woodside. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank after a battle with Lewy Body disease on Thursday, April 15, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in St. John's, NL, he was the son of the late Burkley W. and Katherine (Gulliver) Mitchell. Frank was the last surviving member of the Mitchell family. He was a very generous and loving husband and father whose family came first. Frank will be greatly missed by all. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Helen (Langille) Mitchell; daughters, Frances (Lewis) Payne, Campbell River, B.C.; Catherine D. Mitchell, Margaret (Ron) O'Leary, Janet Graham, Dorothy Mitchell, all of Dartmouth; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his only son, Frank B.; daughters in infancy, Alice and Mary; sisters, Alice Lyon and Caroline Guilliver. Frank served overseas as a trooper with the Royal Canadian Dragoons and upon his return he went to work at the H.M.C. Dockyard. From there he went to the old city prison on Spring Garden Road and was later transferred to the Correctional Centre in Sackville. He became Captain until his retirement in 1981. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 18, with funeral service to be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 19, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception will follow in the funeral home. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Canadian Cancer Society.
