Arthur George Holland May 02, 1904 - April 15, 2004 HOLLAND, Arthur George - 99, Lower Sackville, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at home, with his family by his side. Arthur was born on May 2, 1904, and was looking forward to celebrating his 100 birthday. At the early age of 13 he was employed at the Halifax Hotel, which led to several employment ventures that expanded over his lifetime. He had a passion for harness racing and was well-known at the Sackville Downs Raceway. He was admired for his strong spirit and quiet independence. Arthur is survived by son, Arthur Holland, Lower Sackville; daughters, Patricia Holland, Dartmouth; Joan (Gerald) Clark, Lower Sackville, and lifelong friend, Earl White. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Margaret Grant; second wife, Shirley (McKay) Holland; son, Donald William Holland. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today and Sunday, April 18, with funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Interment will be in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. Donations may be made to Canadian Red Cross Society. Special thanks go to Dr. Adrian Carey and Dr. E.B. Johnson, as well as the Northwood Home Care Centre and Victorian Order of Nurses, who made his last few months comfortable
