VAN EYK, Truus (June 2, 1919 - Jan. 9, 2008) - Originally from Hoogeveen, Holland, Truus emigrated with her family to Canada in 1952 and eventually settled in Welland. Having experienced World War II, Truus recounted stories of the war that exemplified her courage, strength and commitment to family. These traits served her well as a single parent providing for seven children. Later, she worked as a cook with the former Welland Children's Aid Society. Truus was commended during her retirement dinner for her kind, but firm hand with the children she fed and cared for. It was often said, that she cared for those kids like they were her own. Truus later resided at Sunset Haven and Woodlands of Sunset, where she remained for the rest of her life. Her family wishes to thank all the staff at Woodlands of Sunset for their care and attention over the years. Also, for their outstanding efforts and compassion during the last difficult week of Truus' life. Truus is remembered by her extended family for her warmth, generousity, and incredible perseverance. Always strong in her faith, Truus has joined her daughter Betty in the hands of God. We love you. 10955868
