ECKFORD, Eva Gertrude "Eve" (nee Williams) Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, in her 88th year. Predeceased by her husband Abby of 60 years and by her son David. Dear mother of Lynn Richards (Bill) of Penticton, B.C., Steven (Maureen) of Perth, Susan Singer of Carleton Place and Janet Hough (Ron) of Ottawa. Grandmother of Stephen (who faithfully called her), Tammy, Holly, Heidi, Jeffrey, Benjamin, Allison and Ashley. Great-grandmother of Emily, Joshua and Toby. Sister of George Collins (Myrna). Predeceased by brothers Frank Williams, Phil Williams and John Collins. A pioneer of Woodroffe Beach from the 40's. She made a small humble dwelling into a place of love and safety for her husband and three children. In the fifties, the Ottawa Parkway was proposed and our little four room home was expropriated so we moved to Rex Avenue. It was there that the family grew with an additional two daughters. Mother always instilled in us to love, to respect and to honour others and to pursue justice for that which is right. She loved to sew, refinish furniture and redecorate on a regular basis. Many times Dad would come home only to find the walls a different colour and the furniture rearranged. She was a pioneer Mrs. Fix-It before it was a popular concept. She had such a sparkle in those black eyes when she smiled, which was often. We'll miss her egg sandwiches which were the best in the land, her potato salad and her Yorkshire pudding which would rise inches out of the pan. Most of all we'll miss a Mom who has always been there for us, no matter what. Special thanks to nurse Alana Young at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, to all the fourth floor staff at Forrest Hill and all the activity staff, past and present, who became her extended family during her stay there. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Road), Nepean on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. Mom always said "flowers were for the living" so if you wish to make a donation in her memory please consider the Shepherds of Good Hope, 233 Murray Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 5M9. Condolences, donations or tributes may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 1/10/2008 - 1/11/2008
