IRELAND, John Albert (Bert). Bert slipped away while sleeping on January 8, 2008 in his ninety-ninth year. Until his passing, he maintained his gentle manner, his sense of humour and indomitable spirit. He lived his life personifying the traditional values of duty, honour and country. He was a straight arrow to some, but a role model to family and friends. His career spanned from being Lord Atholston's Office Boy to becoming an accomplished commercial artist for the Continental Can Company. His favorite place to be, however, was at his easel, painting for pleasure. In World War II he served with the 6th Duke of Connaught's Royal Canadian Hussars and the 17th Duke of York's Royal Canadian Hussars. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-five years; Ethel. Even though his spirit will be with us always, his presence will be greatly missed by his daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Patrick, and grandsons Paul and Paddy. A private funeral was held at his request. We would like to thank everyone at the C.H.S.L.D. Bussey for their love and exemplary care. Published in the Montreal Gazette on 1/12/2008
