SCHOLZ, Dieter. P.Eng. (June 12, 1929 - December 31, 2007). A devoted family man, proud engineer, and good friend, Dieter died on New Year's Eve, aged seventy-eight, in Alexandria, Ontario. He was born in Goerlitz, Germany, and emigrated to Canada in 1953. Dieter married Inge Hey and they raised three children in Pierrefonds, Quebec. In 1985, Inge and Dieter moved to Glengarry County, Ontario, where they built their dream home, and made a slice of abandoned farmland, bush and swamp their own. Predeceased by his son Martin Peter, Dieter leaves a legacy of an appreciation for learning and music, and a love of the natural environment and outdoor activities. His ready smile, patience, resourcefulness and love of a good story will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife of almost 55 years, Inge, daughters Barbara Ann (Ian Upjohn) and Monique Christine, grandsons Thomas Upjohn and Derek Scholz, and in-laws Brigitte and Antanas Daniliauskas. The family sincerely thanks the staff at The Ottawa Hospital and Glengarry Memorial Hospital for the excellent care that Dieter received during the last five weeks of his life. A celebration of his life was held on January 5, 2008. Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to Child Haven International (613-527-2829), Glengarry Memorial Hospital (613-525-2222), or The Ottawa Hospital Foundation (613-761-4295)."
