HANSEN, Richard Olaf Passed away at home in Arvada, Colorado, USA on January 6, 2008. Beloved husband of Kathleen (Thoms) of Arvada. Dear brother of Lenora Hansen (aka Haldenby) of Ottawa. Predeceased by parents H. Olaf and Muriel Hansen. Sadly missed by many family members, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered for his gentleness, caring, integrity, interest in music expecially as an amateur cellist and his love of animals, especially his cats. Richard received a BSc in mathematics and physics from Carleton University in 1968, and MS (1969) and PhD (1973) degrees in physics from the University of Chicago. He held postdoctoral positions at the University of Pittsburgh from 1973 to 1975, at the University of Oxford from 1975 to 1976, and was a lecturer at the University of California at Berkeley from 1976 to 1978. From 1979 to 1985 he worked at EG&G Geometrics, where he was finally Staff Scientist. From 1985 to 1995 he was a member of the Geophysics Department at the Colorado School of Mines, finally holding the position of Research Professor and Director of the Gravity and Magnetics Project. In 1995, he joined Pearson, deRidder and Johnson, Inc. as Chief Geophysicist and later held the positions of President and Principal Geophysicist. At the time of his death he was Senior Vice President and Senior Geophysicist at EDCON-PRJ, Inc. In 2003 he was awarded Honorary Membership by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) An Ottawa Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Woodroffe United Church, 207 Woodroffe Ave. at 2:00pm with reception to follow. All are welcome. A Memorial Service will be held at United Methodist Church in Arvada the same day. Cremation, with burial in Arvada Cemetery.
