Leo George Bowie - November 29, 1919 - May 01, 2004 - 84, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 1, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital, following a short illness. Born on November 29, 1919, in Lesterdale, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Ernest and Ellen (Dunphy) Bowie. Leo worked at Ben's Bakery for 25 years and then for 10 years with the Halifax Dartmouth School Board. Leo is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Florence Helena MacKay; daughters, Sylvia (John) Burke, Moncton, N.B.; Linda (Wayne) Tough, Halifax; Theresa (Peter) Russell, Fredericton, N.B.; sons, Richard (Peggy), Toronto, Ont.; Leo (Debbie), Guelph, Ont.; James (Paula), British Columbia; Ray (Tina), Hatchet Lake; Paul (Shanna), Boston, Mass.; Ed, Dartmouth; sisters, Agatha Greencorn, Katherine Cleary, Marjorie Armsworthy; brother, Basil. He will be sadly missed by friends and family, especially his grandchildren, Sherrilyn, James, Sharma, Wendy, Paul, Shawna, Scott, Thomas, Melissa, Stephanie, Jamie-Rae, Owen, Brendan, Karen, Emily, Chantelle, Bryce, Thalia; great-grandsons, Chandler, Hunter, Dirk; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Eleanor, Edith, Elizabeth; brothers, Kenneth, William. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday in Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, corner of Main Street and Caledonia Road, Father Owen Connolly officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at a later date in St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Guysborough.
