BARANIUK, Jan (John) - Passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health Palliative Care, Jan (John) Baraniuk, age 82 of Sarnia, on Thursday, February 7, 2008. Dear and loving husband of Aleksandra Baraniuk. Beloved father of Bernard Baraniuk of Vancouver, B.C., Monika Baraniuk of Sarnia, and Viktoria McCrie and husband Bill of Burlington. Special grandfather of Candice Baraniuk and fiancée Ric Locke, Jennifer Baraniuk, Daniel Baraniuk, and Paige Gowans all of Vancouver, B.C., and Savannah Baraniuk of Sarnia. Great grandfather of Jett Locke. Predeceased by mother Maria Yanczura (1990) and son Mark (1995). John was born in Horodnica, Poland on the 23rd of March 1925. He was taken by the Russian army along with his family to Siberia in 1940 as forced labourers. He enrolled in the Polish army in 1942 and went to England for training in early 1943 to become a paratrouper. He was then assigned to the 1st Polish Paratrouper Brigade. The Brigade jumped into Arnhem, Holland in 1944. John was released from the army in 1947 and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He was a long-time employee of Great Lakes Fabricating and a member of Local 663, United Association of Pipefitters and Plumbers retiring in 1990. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 566 Rosedale Ave., Sarnia, on Monday, February 11, 2008, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow at the Polish Hall, 173 Exmouth Street, Sarnia. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, (519) 542-5541.
