Loretta GAINER

DAOUST, Loretta - 96, passed away on January 26, her husband Clovis' birthday. She missed him terribly. Fortunately they only had to be separated for 18 days. She is sadly missed by her daughter Janet Bradley (husband Bob Bradley deceased), granddaughters Kari Bradley and Lara Bradley (husband Peter Zwarich), and great-grandsons Sebastian and Quinn Zwarich. Loretta joins her parents Anne and Joseph Gainer, as well as, her seven siblings, Bill, Frank, Joseph, Eldon, Edmond, Aileen, and Gerard. The farm in Arthur, where she grew up with her family, remained a touchstone for Loretta when all other memories had gone. While the farm never left her heart, Loretta did leave it to pursue her calling in life – teaching. She started out in a one-room schoolhouse teaching English to 55 francophone students in the bush near Hagar. That was where she met Clovis, who was working at his father's store. They had 70 years together, which they celebrated last summer. The couple eventually moved to Sudbury, where Loretta taught Grade 2 students at St. Thomas School how to read and write for 35 years. Teaching these two skills to children was her passion. She also gardened, growing massive beds of flowers at their Elizabeth Street home and vegetables at their camp on the French River. She was fierce and caring, strong willed beyond belief. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Villa for their loving care of both Loretta and Clovis, who they treated as if they were their own family. We can't thank all of you enough. Because Loretta got to say goodbye to so many dear friends and family such a short time ago, there will be no public visitation or service at this time. Please think happy thoughts for both of them.
