MIETO, Isak - The family announces with sorrow the passing of Isak Mieto. He passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 at the Finnish Rest Home in Sudbury at the age of 101. Isak was born in Kauhajoki, Finland on May 26, 1906. He came to Canada in 1929, residing in Toronto, owning a small commercial trucking business. After a period of time in Toronto, Isak moved to South Porcupine for work with Paymaster Mines, where he worked as a mechanic for 39 years. However, it was time spent at Lake Watabeag at his camp that he enjoyed and savored the most. His favorite past times were fishing, gardening and spending time in his renowned sauna. Isak was the original founding member of the Suomi Klubi and a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in South Porcupine. Beloved husband of Aino (Nummela) predeceased (1989). Loving father of Taito predeceased and wife Vilma of Sudbury, and Age and wife Laura of Fagersta, Sweden. Sadly missed by grandchildren Mark of Sudbury, Kaarina of South Porcupine, Michael of Sault Ste. Marie, Christina of Springfield, Illinois and Reijo, Raimo, Pirjo, Kimmo and Keijo of Fagersta, Sweden. Survived by 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great- grandchildren. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury. Friends may call on Saturday, February 2nd from 1 - 2 p.m. and a service will be held at 2 p.m. On Friday, February 8th at 3 p.m., a memorial service will be held at Kulta-Koti, 231 Huot Street, South Porcupine. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Finnish Rest Home Society in Sudbury and Kulta-Koti in South Porcupine.
