William Alexander Slater February 19, 1922 - May 06, 2004 Mr. William Slater, aged 82 years, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospice with his family by his side. William was born on February 19, 1922 in Fort William to Victor and Janet Slater. On June 26, 1946 he married his childhood sweetheart Violet Edna Coleman. They enjoyed traveling and winter vacations in Mesa, Arizona where they met many friends. William worked until his retirement for the Board of Grain Commission. Prior to this he worked at the prison camp in Neys, Ontario. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 and First Church United. William is survived by his wife Violet, children Vicki (Dave Wilson), Shelley Gedanitz (Bruce Gammond), only granddaughter Laurie Anne (Perry Berube) of Saskatoon (here), sister Margarite (Allan Read), sister-in-law Elda Slater (Comox), Hilda Murphy, special niece Betty Murphy and cousin Vera Pudas. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by parents Victor and Janet Slater, parents-in-law Walter and Elizabeth Coleman, infant daughter Cheryl Lyn, brother Alex, son-in-law George Gedanitz, nieces Shirley Tabor and Dorothy Bulger and nephew Jack Murphy as well as numerous other relatives. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Mr. William Slater will be held on Monday, May 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church United with Rev. Carl Triskle officiating.
