ROSTAD, Jens Hubert (Ross) - A wonderful man who lived life to the fullest with devotion and determination to make a difference in the many lives that he touched. Jens Hubert (Ross) Rostad passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Kelowna General Hospital in his 81st year. Loving husband of 61 years to Phyllis. Cherished father of Dallas (wife Paulette) of New Liskeard, ON and Bonnie (husband Toly Korolow) of Kelowna. Beloved grandfather of Tobias Korolow of Exshaw, AB and Tanya Korolow (fiance Justin Fitzpatrick) of St. Catharines, ON. Predeased by brother Victor Rostad and sister Viola Drover. Jens (Ross) was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, moving to Medstead, Saskatchewan as a young boy. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during which time he met his future bride. Following their marriage, they lived for a short time in Cadomin, Alberta and then settled in Levack, ON where he worked in the mining industry until his retirement in 1983. He was a dedicated member of the community, serving on the local high school board, board of directors for the local Credit union, as well as being actively involved as Superintendent of Sunday School, Clerk of Session and lay-minister for the United Church of Canada. Following his retirement, he and Phyllis moved to Kelowna in 1985. He continued his activities with preaching and involvement within the church and community. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, billiards, bowling and social times with his dear friends. His greatest joy, however, were the special times he spent with his family. He will be dearly missed by everyone who was touched by his generosity and infectious personality. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff in ER and 4A at Kelowna General Hospital for their comforting care. A very special thank you to the many doctors who have cared for him over the last several years, especially Dr. Tom Taylor. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be So He closed his arms around you And whispered, “Come to Me” In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away, Our Hearts were truly broken, You fought so hard to stay, But when we saw you sleeping Peacefully and free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. Visitation will be held at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC on Monday, February 18th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's United, 3131 Lakeshore Avenue on Tuesday, February 19th at 2:00 pm with Reverend Albert Baldeo officiating.
