NIXON, Gordon - At the Shaver Hospital on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Joan Nixon. Loving father of Nancy Joan of St.Catharines and Catherine Jane McCallum (husband Don) of North Bay. Wonderful grandfather of Keith, Scott, and Neil. Dear brother to Mary Walters (Picton) and dear friend to Marion Park (St.Catharines). Predeceased by his parents Norman and Jane Nixon and his brother Saylor. Gordon was a proud graduate of Ontario Agricultural College (University of Guelph). He was employed with Lightning Fastener Co Ltd. for 35 years retiring in 1980. Throughout his work career and his retirement years Gordon was an enthusiastic member of the University of Guelph Alumni Association. He was the Founding President of the University of Guelph Alumni Association, past president of the OAC Alumni Association, former chair of the OAC Alumni Foundation, Alumnus of Honour, OAC Centennial medalist and member of the University Heritage Fund Board of Trustees. For his volunteer efforts Gordon was recognized with the Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service in the year 2000 and the Order of OAC in 2002. Gordon was also past president of the Canadian 4H Foundation and recognized by the Foundation for 50 years of service to 4H. Gordon was an active member of St. Paul St. United Church holding a position on the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Gyro and Kiwanis Central Clubs and a former Director of the St.Catharines Chamber of Commerce. Gordon will be remembered for his annual hunting excursions with his good friends of the Nova Scotia Hunters Club where they practised the art of deer preservation. Gordon's gentleness, loyalty, friendship, and sense of humour will be sadly missed, but always remembered. The family will receive friends at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St. St.Catharines, (905-684-6346), on Thursday, February 14, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at St. Paul St. United Church. In Gordon's memory donations may be made to the OAC Alumni Foundation Gordon Nixon Teaching Trust (University of Guelph) or the Shaver Hospital. 10986554
