Olive Phyllis Perry (née Grant) April 21, 1920 - May 14, 2004 PERRY (Grant), Olive Phyllis - 84, Bedford, formerly of Middle Sackville, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2004. Born on April 21, 1920, in Scotch Hill, Pictou Co., Olive was the eldest child of the late Lillian (Johnson) and Gordon Grant. Following her education in New Glasgow, Olive joined the service in 1942 and served until 1946 in the CWAC. After the war, Olive continued her education in Halifax. Upon graduation, Olive worked at the Royal Bank, followed by a teaching career at the Vocational School and the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology. Olive married her beloved, Leland Perry in 1951. They enjoyed 38 years of married life. In her retirement years, Olive devoted her life to her family and the services of others in the community. Olive's interests included the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95, Bedford, where she was past president and secretary, Meals on Wheels, Senior's Club, Cobequid Multi-Service Centre, IODE Sackville, and Golden Link Rebekah Lodge No. 2 IOOF. In 2003, the Lake District Recreation Association awarded Olive Volunteer of the Year. Olive's survivors include chosen daughter, Lynn (James) Everett and their daughter Julie (Baylor) Crawford; sister, Gladys (Clarence) Porter; brother, Peter (Anna) Grant; sister-in-law, Ina Haas; nieces, Phyllis Porter-Baker (John) and Joan Porter; nephews, Douglas (Shannon) Grant and Scott (Donna) Grant; grandnephews, Joshua Grant and Christopher D'Eon; grandnieces, Melanie Grant, Amy Grant and Jacqueline Grant. Besides her parents and husband, Olive was predeceased by her nephews, David and Alan Porter; grandnephew, Jonathan Grant. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to devoted friends, Lynn and James Everett, Jean Behie, the Bedford Legion, Dr. J. Fitzgerald, Nephrology Department, the Dialysis Unit, and caring nurses, Erin and Merion of Bayshore Nursing Care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Olive's memory can be made to the Cobequid Multi-Service Centre or Dialysis Unit at the Dickson Building. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Bedford Legion from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Legion. The funeral is under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, Lower Sackville. Interment will be at a later date.
