Reverend John Donald MacDonald November 01, 1924 - March 04, 2004 MacDonald, John Donald It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don, well-loved husband, father, and grandfather. Born November 1, 1924 in Kenora Ontario, Don passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital on March 4, 2004. Don will be missed beyond measure by his wife, Freda Margaret (Maggie), his seven children, David, Robert, Mary, Margaret, Donald, Peter, and Angus, and his six grandchildren, Charlie, Heather, Geordie, Madeline, Gabrielle, and John. Don grew up in Baddeck, Cape Breton, and received his education at St. Francis Xavier University (B.Sc.), Dalhousie University (pre-med.), and Pine Hill University (M. Divinity). He served his professional life as a United Church minister in Sheet Harbour, N.S., Hartland, N.B., Westville, N.S., Kincardine, Ont., Goderich, Ont., Windsor, Ontario, and Ladner, B.C. Don will be remembered by all who knew him as the kind, gentle and soft-spoken man with the sparkling blue eyes. He was a generous, well-loved pastor with the gift of reaching and uniting his congregations, young and old. His sermons were life lessons, bringing together religious teachings, philosophy, psychology, and politics. Don loved the natural world, and in his leisure he enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, small boat building, and canoeing. He worked for Oxfam and Miles for Millions. Don will be missed beyond measure by his wife, Freda Margaret (Maggie), his seven children, David, Robert, Mary, Margaret, Donald, Peter, and Angus, and their partners, and his six grandchildren, Charlie, Heather, Geordie, Madeline, Gabrielle, and John. The family wishes to acknowledge the tremendous love and support of the Cowichan Valley Caregivers and the circle group. Thanks for his care and compassion to Dr. S. Faulkner, and for their kindess, the staff of the 2nd Floor of the Cowichan District Hospital. A memorial service will be held to remember Don: Sunday March 7, 2004, Unity Church, 2231A Mc Garrigle Street, Nanaimo, B.C. 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cowichan Valley Caregivers Support Society, 16242 Jersey Road, P.O. Box 13, Shawnigan Lake, V0R 2W0.
