Douglas Allan Hagman December 21, 1937 - May 11, 2004 - 66 of Lower Sackville passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at home. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Arnold & Ester (Mountain) Hagman. Douglas was an accountant for Texaco for may years. A former student of Middleton Regional High School, Middleton, NS. Pte Hagman enlisted in the regular army in Septmeber 1954 as an apprentice soldier. In June 1955 Douglas graduated from the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps School, Montreal, and became a fully fledged member of the Regualr Army. He served from August 1954- September 159 & December 1960- June 1961. During his stay at the R.C.O.C. school he received academic as well as military training and qualifed as a clerk (accounting). Interested in music he also trained as a buglar and played with the R.C.O.C. Band. At the Army School he excelled in sports, playing basketball, & participating in track and field events. He was an excellent marksman and wore the proficiency badge denoting a first class rifle shot. During the first year of his training, Pte. Hagman had the distinction of being appointed platoon leader in recognition of outstanding performance. He was one of 4 Nova Scotian's who won athletic awards for Track & Field. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion # 162, Lower Sackville. Douglas was also an avid reader. Surviving are his former wife, Karen; daughters, Michelle Hagman, Lower Sackville; Theresa (Bill) Kinnear, Lower Sackville; Jennifer Hagman, Lower Sackville; Susan (Sean) Breakspear, Calgary, Alberta; Holly (Jeff) Lima, Edmonton, Alberta; son, Douglas Hagman, Lower Sackville; 12 grandchildren, Elysia, James, Kristen, Natasha, Candance, Stephen, Gregory, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Kassanadra, Austin; one great-grandson, Aiden; sisters, Jan (Barry) Robinson, Halifax; Judy Foisey, Montreal. He was predeceased by sister, Peggy Smith. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Tuesday, May 18,2004 & Memorial service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, May 19, 2004 all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. Lower Sackville. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #162, Lower Sackville. Interment will be at a later date in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery. Donations may be made to Royal Canadian Legion branch #162 Poppy Fund or Cobequid Community Health Centre Foundation.
