CHIPMAN, Charles Frederic "Chip" CHIPMAN, Charles Frederic "Chip" - 78, Weston, Kings Co. passed away Monday, March 24, 2008, suddenly and peacefully at home. Born in Winnipeg, Man., Charles was the son of the late Fred and Dorothy Chipman, Dartmouth. Following education in Dartmouth and at Dalhousie University, Charles married Jean (Fraser) Chipman (55 years) and lived in Dartmouth and thoroughly enjoyed summers in Musquodoboit Harbour. Additionally bereaving are children, Jan Chipman (Wayne Newhook), Waterville; Sue Conrad, Waverley; Robert Chipman (Veronica), Ellen Tancock (Mike), all of Dartmouth; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Charles enjoyed people, was gifted with endless artful conversation and loved automobiles. While living in Dartmouth he ran the family business - Harbour Motors Limited. He actively supported business and community organizations and held positions of president and past president of Halifax Dartmouth Automobile Dealers Association, NS Automobile Dealers Association, Maritime Automobile Dealers Association, and was a National Director on FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Association). He was a president of the Dartmouth Curling Club and Dartmouth Chamber of Commerce, a Director of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Petpeswick Yacht Club, a Steward of St. James United Church, Dartmouth, member of Aylesford United Church, a Director of Atlantic School of Theology and a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge. After moving with Jean to Aylesford in the Annapolis Valley in 1988, he became an active Aylesford & District Lions Club member and held various club and Regional District Lions Club and committee positions including president and past president. Charles was very passionate about his work with Christmas Mommies and Daddies, Friendly Neighbours, the local youth summer swimming program, and spending time in the kitchen at Lions' catering functions. He loved to hear those Lions "roar". Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home. There will be a funeral service followed by a reception at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Highway 1, Aylesford, Pastor Kay Dean D.M. officiating. Burial in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Dartmouth, at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aylesford & District Lions Club, Aylesford United Church or a charity of your choice.
