MURPHY, George Michael, Cdr (N) (Ret'd), CD MURPHY, George Michael, Cdr (N) (Ret'd), CD - 64, Upper Sackville, passed away peacefully in QEII Health Sciences Centre on March 27, 2008. Born in Ottawa, Ont., he was the son of the late John and Florence (MacDonald) Murphy. George dedicated his life to his family and those around him. George had a successful finance career with the Canadian navy with posting on ship (Terra Nova) and in Ottawa, Toronto, Moncton, and Halifax, achieving the rank of Commander by his retirement as Head of Base Supply at CFB Halifax in 1993. He then worked as the Director of Purchasing for the Nova Scotia Department of Supply and Services from 1993 to 2004. He had a great love of golf and gardening. George is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Hamilton); daughter, Leslie, Halifax; son, Greg (Jackie Crowe); grandson, Dustin, Bedford; sister, Margaret (Dave) Moffatt; niece, Kim (Mike) Shelp; nephew, Michael (Donna), all of Ottawa; special cousin, Donna Cooper, Dubai, UAE; sister-in-law, Lorna (John) Cahill, Upper Kent, N.B.; nephews, Brett (Serena) Cahill, Beechwood, N.B., and Jason (Jennifer) Cahill, Holmesville, N.B. He was predeceased by his sister, Carole. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., and where the funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday. Special thanks to the staff in Emergency and the ICU 5.2 QEII Health Sciences Centre for the wonderful care given to George and the family.
