GOFENKO, George, 1934 - 2004 George Steven Gofenko passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the age of 70 years. George was predeceased by his parents; Steven and Sarah as well as his brothers John and Tom; and sisters Mary, Violet, Annie and Rose. Lovingly remembered by his wife Pearl of thirty-nine years; his four children; Deborah, Terry, Crystal and Billy; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters; Vera, Elanor and Eva. George was born on February 21, 1934 in Windsor, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces at an early age, serving as an Infantryman in the Queen's Own Rifle Regiment and later with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Regiment. During his twenty-five year career in the military, he saw service in Korea, Germany,Israel, and Cyprus. Following his retirement from the military, he joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires where he was employed for twenty years. Funeral Service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services (240 - 17th Avenue SW) on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations in George's memory may be made directly to The Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 - 29th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 4N2).
